Nash was born in London, England in 1956 and started his musical journey in the mid 60’s when his soon to be uncle Bert brought an acoustic, nylon stringed, guitar into the family home. His fascination with the musical hits of the time, which he heard on the radio and sometimes, if he was allowed, on Sunday evenings TV, was fuelled by getting his hands on the magical 4 stringed instrument (2 strings broken and not replaced).
“I remember running back from school eager to practice my chords to She’ll be Comin’ ‘round the Mountain, Ramblin’ Boy and other folk songs of the time by Pete Seeger and Tom Paxton and the like”. But his first band, made up of friends, Charcoal Grunt needed a drummer, so he joined.
In his teenage years he wrote songs, as most young guitarists do, keeping them in a book that survives to this day. Songs about love, girls, the injustices of life and his soon to be wife Gina, who he married in 1975 both aged 19.
He played in a variety of local bands that played all over the U K. His longest stint was with the successful soul outfit Junkklub reviving Motown and Stax classic soul songs. He returned to the acoustic guitar and started backing female vocalists in bars and halls re-arranging classic songs for the unplugged audience. That's when he really started to develop his love of composing his brand of song.
“I base my music and lyrics on a vivid imagination and real life experiences hopefully ending up with songs that have a sensitive, soft and easy to listen to feel.
Now, a silent performer, he writes for signed and unsigned artists. He has spent the last few months developing and crafting the latest collection of co-written songs (with Suzie Bowley) entitled “Now Watch Me Disappear” employing the talents of musicians from his past and present, this album has the flavour of his influences from the past*.
Encouraged by the interest of film and music publishers and producers as well as people he respects, his song writing talents and success have led him to be involved with not only new but established song writers. “The positive reception of Now Watch Me Disappear, as a piece of work, is most encouraging and I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the friends and family who helped on the album, not to mention the inspirational Mark Hutchinson the producer/engineer. I really do want the listeners to enjoy both the music and lyrics and identify with the sentiments of each song”.
Nash is currently putting a studio band together with a view to embarking on another collection of his own and co-written songs.
